Sarah dives deeper into catering

A familiar face has been sharpening and enhancing her talents for a return to porridge

Sarah completing training at The Hive

When we previously featured Sarah, 39, from Ballygowan, she had just begun a work placement at Loaf’s café in Ballycultra Manor Tearoom at the Ulster Folk Museum. Here, she found a great environment to put her excellent customer service skills into practice and to meet every visitor with a pleasant greeting.

Since that time, Sarah also enjoyed a brief stint back at work in December, where she was able to lend a helping hand in the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Ulster Folk Musuem. Most remarkably, though, is that she has maintained this upskilling momentum into 2021.

In 2020 Sarah enrolled in the Loaf Academy course, where she completed an OCN Level 1 in Vocational Skills. And having enjoyed this course so much, she then decided she wanted to continue her learning and subsequently signed up for NOW Group’s OCN-accredited Hospitality Academy.

To complement her skills gained in sandwich preparation, coffee making and housekeeping, Sarah now travels to Belfast to attend this course. During this period of training, it has been fantastic to see Sarah build up friendships with other participants and grow in confidence and self-esteem.

The final piece of the puzzle is now for Sarah to return to her placement at Ballycultra and show off all that she has worked hard on since last year. With the museum and Loaf’s café open to the public again since 12 June, we are actively working to make this happen in the coming weeks.

It has been a long road, but we are just as excited as Sarah for that day to arrive. It really can’t come soon enough!
