Luke Gribbin has had an interest in hospitality from a young age. He enjoyed helping out in the kitchen and developed a passion for food preparation, which inspired him to pursue training in the hospitality sector.
Before joining NOW Group, Luke successfully completed QQI Level 5 qualifications in Pastry, Baking and Desserts and Culinary Techniques. These courses provided him with valuable skills and knowledge while strengthening his interest in building a career in hospitality.
More recently, Luke completed an OCN Award in Hospitality with NOW Group. As part of the programme, he achieved units in Skills in Customer Service, Housekeeping, and Food and Drink Service.
Throughout the course, Luke demonstrated excellent commitment and reliability. He rarely missed a class and approached every session with a positive attitude. Always willing to get involved, he was often one of the first learners to volunteer for practical activities. His enthusiasm and willingness to try new tasks helped him make the most of every learning opportunity.
Luke particularly excelled in the practical elements of the programme. During the Food and Drink Service unit, he developed his skills in setting tables correctly and providing waiter service. He quickly became confident in carrying out these tasks and consistently performed to a high standard.
As part of the Housekeeping unit, Luke learned how to prepare guest bedrooms to industry standards. He practised fitting duvet covers and pillowcases, making beds neatly, and carrying out a range of cleaning duties associated with housekeeping operations. These practical activities gave him a good understanding of the standards required within the hospitality industry.
One of the highlights of the programme was taking part in two educational visits to the Errigal Country House Hotel. During the first visit, learners toured the restaurant, kitchen, bar and banqueting facilities, which had been set up for an upcoming wedding. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to see how different departments work together to deliver a high quality guest experience.
The second visit focused on housekeeping. Learners were shown a completed guest room and observed a housekeeping professional demonstrating bed making techniques, bathroom cleaning procedures and hygienic working practices that help ensure guest comfort and satisfaction.
Reflecting on his experience, Luke said the programme helped him build his confidence. Throughout the programme, he consistently demonstrated commitment, a positive attitude and strong practical skills, and his achievements are a testament to the dedication he showed throughout.
NOW Group is delighted to have supported Luke on his journey and wishes him every success as he pursues a career in the hospitality industry.
