Texthelp and the NOW Group - working together to promote inclusion in Northern Ireland

Proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, Antrim based software company, Texthelp, is delighted to be supporting the community and promoting inclusion even further in Northern Ireland alongside the NOW Group by becoming part of the JAM Card family.

The JAM Card, which stands for Just A Minute, is a social innovation from NOW Group, an organisation that supports people with learning difficulties and autism into employment. A group of participants came up with the idea of the JAM Card – a discreet way of telling people that sometimes they need a little extra time and patience. Initially people asked for Just a Minute via a physical credit card-sized card but now 23,000 users across the UK and Ireland use both the card and the app on their smartphone.

Texthelp has demonstrated its commitment to customers by taking part in training that will ensure its staff are equipped to provide excellent customer service to people with learning difficulties and communication barriers.

Leeann Kelly and Danielle Lyons of the NOW Group with Amy McClure Texthelp’s Workplace Solutions Champion check out Browsealoud on the JAM Card website.

Staff from Texthelp have recently taken part in JAM Card awareness training which will provide them with the knowledge they need to ensure that when attending trade shows and meeting customers face to face as well as handling customer service and technical support queries all needs are taken into consideration.

Mark McCusker, CEO of Texthelp said, “As two organisations who are so passionate about creating fully inclusive and accessible environments, we hope our partnership with the NOW Group will help us to spread the word and get even more organisations thinking and acting on accessibility.

Using websites can sometimes be a stressful and frustrating process for people experiencing communication challenges. Our goal is to help other companies reach every website visitor and create an inclusive digital experience for their users by adding extra support to their website using our Browsealoud tool.

Mark adds, “Nearly 6.3 million people (around 10% of the UK population) have dyslexia, and people with dyslexia often have other conditions, including dyscalculia, ADD and ADHD. These types of hidden disabilities are now more understood and organisations are growing acutely aware of the importance of creating environments that are welcoming to both neurodiverse staff and customers.”

Leeann Kelly, Business Development Manager at NOW Group said “We see this as the start of a wide-ranging partnership between two organisations with the shared aim of improving accessibility and customer service. We’re really pleased that Texthelp has taken up the JAM Card and trained its team in disability awareness. Having their Browsealoud product on the JAM Card website also allows us to extend the accessibility of that information.”
