Jay's journey in to work with Applegreen

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

Jay Magee is another success story from NOW Group’s ESF-funded supported employment programme Verve.

Jay, from Ballymena, felt not having qualifications in maths and English were barriers to him finding employment so sought help from the NOW Group. Jay had weekly one to one meetings with his key worker, Paddy, and joined the job club in his local area. NOW Group job clubs are a great opportunity to engage with peers, meet other participants and share relevant experiences about job applications and interviews. They are also a supportive, social environment in which to tackle the main task of finding a job.

Jay also enrolled on our ten week pre-employment course run by Emily to learn about workplace behaviour, interview skills and diversity in the workplace amongst other soft skills that would be valuable in any working environment.

We’re proud to say that Jay is now a part time customer advisor in the Applegreen Services at Ballymena. Paddy remains in regular contact with Jay who says, “I am really grateful for the work Paddy and Emily did to help me get ready for the world of work, I am really enjoying my new job.”

NOW Group supports people with learning difficulties and Autism in to jobs with a future. Please contact us on 028 9043 6044 if we might be able to help you or drop us a line on admin@nowgroup.org
