Alex shapes his barista path at Loaf Pottery

Our County Down participant has also been racking up qualifications like they are going out of fashion

Alex raring to go at Loaf Pottery

Alex is from Newtownards and has been with the social group at Loaf Pottery since January 2020. In the following month, he signed up for NOW Group’s award-winning employment programme, Verve.

Ever keen to get involved in training courses for self-development, Alex has wasted no time in getting studious with the assistance of his Job Coach, Madeline Heron. He has now completed a staggering six courses, including his OCN Level 1 Catering and, most recently, Foundations for Money Management and Soft Skills for Work.

Alex also really enjoys arts and crafts and baking, and his goal is to find paid employment as a barista. To this end, he has returned to where his NOW Group journey began and is undertaking a work placement at Loaf Pottery on Sundays.

Here, he has been able to complete his barista training and loves to practise making the different types of coffees and honing his craft. Alex has also proven a hit with customers, where his waiting skills are so in demand that people have been willing to wait for his table service.

Like many others, Alex’s progress has been stymied by the pandemic. We are currently in the process of getting him back to his placement at Loaf Pottery. With his hard work and skilled application, we are confident he is on the right track to arrive at his goal.
