James’ Progression from Placement to Employment

James joined NOW Group in March 2025 and began a placement at the Bobbin Coffee Shop, located in Belfast City Hall. From the outset, he demonstrated clear potential, and the Bobbin staff quickly recognised his aptitude for food preparation and catering. As a result, James was recommended for further development opportunities.

On 4 August, James commenced training at Loaf Academy, where he expressed a keen interest in both catering and caretaking. His motivation was clear. He wanted to stay active, learn new skills and ultimately secure paid employment.

During the 12 week programme, James set two personal goals. The first was to build his confidence and take more initiative, and the second was to obtain paid employment.

James successfully achieved both goals within the programme timeframe. Around the halfway point of the academy, he began an external placement at Lavery’s in Belfast. From the beginning, he embraced the opportunity, and we received consistently positive feedback about his performance and attitude.

As the academy came to an end, Karen, Loaf’s Academy and Quality Co ordinator reached out to Lavery’s to explore the possibility of a paid role. Lavery’s responded enthusiastically and offered James a part time position.

James is now working part time at Lavery’s while continuing his studies with Workforce. His dedication, personal growth and determination throughout this journey have been exceptional, and we are incredibly proud of everything he has achieved.
