Catering for the future: Mavourneen working on her NVQ Level 1 theory
In her first steps towards a job, Mavourneen expressed an interest in gaining catering experience. With places still available on NOW’s NVQ Level 1 Food Preparation and Cooking, she got the green light to begin making this a reality in September 2019.
To develop her culinary skills, Mavourneen attended one theory day a week at The Hive (NOW’s head office) as well as one practical session at Loaf Café on the Grosvenor Road. And while, like many of our participants, she was initially very quiet, she soon began to form good working relationships with her classmates and, indeed, was quick to praise and encourage contributions from others.
Mavourneen has now successfully completed her NVQ Level 1 course in Food Preparation and Cooking, and has progressed to an NVQ Level 1 in Food and Beverage Service, taking her ever closer to a job in the busy world of catering.
A special word is also deserved for Mavourneen’s ability to transition to online Zoom sessions for this second qualification, which she achieved with just a little support from her family, who we take this opportunity to thank.
Outside of enthusiastically carving a career in catering, Mavourneen was selected to represent NOW Group in a film produced by BHSCT (Belfast Health & Social Care Trust), which focused on promoting the services that NOW provides to Trust-funded participants.
We were delighted to see Mavourneen appear as a complete natural in front of the camera, and this is another string that she has added to an already commendable bow.
